An equestrian year to remember
It’s been quite the year for the equestrian programs at William Woods University. Between clinics, shows, competitions, student events, and events for the community, bachelors in equestrian students had a busy year.
The Center for Equine Medicine hit the ground running, and all five equestrian teams took home several impressive team and individual awards.
“I’m most proud of the professionalism and camaraderie that the students have demonstrated at each and every competition. They are truly working to help each other and gain valuable experience,” said Jennie Petterson, Equestrian Studies Division Chair.
Petterson also mentioned the most exciting part of the year for her — co-coaching the U.S. Nationals-winning Judging Team.
“I can’t even begin to express how impressed I have been with the entire team this year. They practiced hard and dedicated themselves to preparing for U. S. Nationals,” Petterson said.
“The team has continued to volunteer in the community and help local 4H and FFA teams prepare for their own competitions. They have volunteered as riders and reasons judges and have committed themselves to sharing what they have learned with young judging enthusiasts. As a teacher and coach this is what it is all about.”
Looking forward, Petterson is eager to watch our new students continue to develop as riders, teachers and trainers next year. And to see a number of new horses in each discipline join the team.
Equestrian studies at William Woods continues to move forward with a proactive approach to performance horse management through the new Center for Equine Medicine, Veterinarian and Associate Professor Dr. Schiltz, and through collaboration with the biology department.
